Is a nonprofit organization based in Boston, MA committed to the advancement of Haitians in the diaspora and in Haiti.
The institute provides educational, financial and social programing aimed at building capacity in local communities towards improving health, economic and educational outcomes.
EDUCATE
HIW Centers deliver educational programming aimed at improving the quality of life for host communities. Members can access courses in basic literacy, computer literacy, 21st century competencies, vocational skills, as well as academic tutoring and STEM skills.
Most importantly, introductory and intermediate level CPR, first aid and basic life support training is taught throughout the year.
EMPOWER
A key value and guiding principle or HIW is self-sufficient communities. To that end, we’ve developed a model dubbed “Soup woch” (stone soup) whereby citizens engage as active stakeholders and collaborators in program development and implementation. This practice allows for the transfer of invaluable leadership and management skills necessary for the realization, maintenance, and advancement of community development targets
EQUIP
Through the support of our partners, HIW facilitates acquisition of essential equipment and supplies for partner communities. Community health agents receive fully furnished medical kits to carry out their critical work. In addition, our centers make available resources such as, emergency meal kits, first aid supplies, and a technology center. A loaner tools program is the works.
